The ash is one of my special trees at the moment.
A riddle: can you tell the difference between a young ash tree and a rown? When the autumn comes it is easy. The rowan leaves turn a beautiful red. In the winter, it is also easy, the rowan has the berries. But in the summer, the leaves of both are much alike and it is difficult to tell them apart.
Ash in ogham is Nuin or Nion. In the Battle of the Trees (Cad Gaddeu) its line is: ".. cruel the ash tree - turns not aside a foot-breadth, straight at the heart ran he." Ash is also used for arrows.
In the Scandinavian creation myth, the first man is Asc (Ash). The first woman is Embla (elm).
